Expert Masonry That Stands the Test of Time

Masonry is the backbone of every brick, block, and stone structure. When mortar deteriorates, bricks crack, or lintels fail, the damage spreads fast — water gets in, structural integrity weakens, and repair costs multiply. G&S Restoration Group catches it early and fixes it right.

Our masons bring decades of combined experience in traditional and modern masonry techniques. Whether it’s repointing a brownstone, rebuilding a parapet wall, or replacing failing lintels, we deliver work that’s structurally sound and visually seamless.

What We Handle

Brick Pointing

Remove deteriorated mortar and repoint with color-matched material. Restores weatherproofing and structural integrity to brick facades.

Brick & Block Work

New brick walls, block foundations, retaining walls, and structural masonry for residential and commercial buildings.

Parapet Walls

Rebuild, repair, and waterproof parapet walls — a common failure point on flat-roof buildings that leads to serious water damage.

Lintel Replacement

Steel and stone lintel replacement above windows and doors. Failing lintels cause cracking and can compromise the entire wall section above.

Coping Stones & Sills

Replace cracked or missing coping stones and window sills that allow water penetration into the wall structure below.

Facade Restoration

Complete building facade restoration including cleaning, repointing, brick replacement, and waterproof coatings. Local Law #11 compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my building needs repointing?
Look for mortar that’s crumbling, receding more than ¼ inch from the brick face, or falling out in chunks. Water stains on interior walls near the exterior are another sign. If mortar crumbles when you scratch it with a key, it’s time.
Repointing removes old mortar and replaces it. Tuckpointing is a decorative technique that uses two colors of mortar to create the illusion of very fine joints. Most buildings need repointing; tuckpointing is an aesthetic upgrade.
Quality repointing with the right mortar mix lasts 25-50 years depending on exposure. We use mortar that matches the original in strength and flexibility — using too-hard mortar on old brick actually causes more damage.
Yes. We’re certified for Local Law #11 (FISP) facade inspection and repair. We work with your engineer, pull permits, perform the repairs, and coordinate the sign-off.
